Phone Scam Information

 


Phone scams, or otherwise known as non-traditional communications fraud, is an incidence where a telecommunication firm or its consumers commit phone scams in order to obtain money or otherwise improperly taking advantage of a telecommunications firm. The main characteristic of phone scams is that they make up fraudulent telephone calls using names and identifying information which can only be recognized by a trained eye. The main areas targeted by phone scams are the United States and United Kingdom. In the UK, this type of fraud mainly takes place in the form of unsolicited calls made to residential homes and businesses, especially those using voice over IP systems (voice over internet protocol).

As previously mentioned, phone scams usually target organizations using voice over IP. One prominent telephony fraud ring in the is telemarketing companies, whose main target market is UK residents. Telemarketing companies commonly engage in a lot of unsolicited calls to residential homes and businesses, promising quick and easy ways to earn large sums of money. Often, these telemarketing companies promise access to a large pool of potential customers and then proceed to ask for payments from consumers who will supposedly benefit from buying their products. However, as these phone scams become increasingly popular, many UK residents have begun to report numerous instances of phone fraud from firms that do not actually exist. In such cases, UK citizens are advised to report any unsolicited calls to the Information commissioner, so that he or she can investigate and take appropriate action against the callers.

There are different types of phone scam, each of which involves a different way by which a telemarketer or scammer gains profit. Therefore, when dealing with phone scams, it is necessary to become aware of all the possible scammers, so that you can deal with them appropriately and protect your personal information from being misused by any party. As soon as you encounter a strange number on your phone bill or online, you should immediately inform your friends or family, who may be able to help you out. The Internet is a rich source of information about phone scams, so it is always advisable to look up different discussion forums and blogs where victims of these scams can discuss their experiences.
